In Spadikam, Mohanlal did the role of real-life rowdy known as Aadu Thoma. The film follows the account of Aadu Thoma and his father who he has grown estranged from in his childhood. Living under the same roof, they are unable to be father and son to each other. Aadu Thoma , the classic rowdy and his father the schoolmaster, whom the students call Kaduva
The opening scene where Aadu Thoma appears from out of the wilderness and captures a goat is classic and will remain etched in the minds of fans forever. Thilakan, as the father and the school master cast in a typical role, who wants better life for his children by providing better education. His style is exceptional and does an impressive role as that of a harsh schoolmaster with mixed feelings of fondness and hatred for his son and his behaviour. The film does feature comedy and this is the movie with the classic scenes where Mohanlal beats up a police officer and finally removes his 'mundu' and tries to choke him. The fight scenes are typical though and the role of the witty and smart rowdy is done impeccably well by Mohanlal. The story has its twist and turns based on the appearance of the other characters in the movies especially KPAC Lalitha as the mother and Rajan P. Dev as Uncle, Karamana as the local Preist, Nedumudi Venu as School teacher and Urvashi as childhood friend.
